Scattered storms and hot across Colorado as July comes to a close

DENVER — The heat will continue across the region this week. Scattered afternoon and evening storms are likely through most of the week.

Monday, highs topped out in the middle 90s in Denver. While the metro-area saw mostly sunny skies, some strong to severe storms have formed over the Palmer Divide, as well as over the far northeastern plains.

Heavy rain, very gusty winds and golf ball sized hail occurred with a few storms. A tornado warning was issued for the east side of Colorado Springs, some minor damage was reported. Activity will diminish through tonight with skies becoming partly cloudy by morning.

Lows will be in the upper 50s to low 60s by early morning over the plains with 40s to middle 50s in the mountains.

There will be a good chance for more afternoon thunderstorms Tuesday and again on Wednesday in Denver. Temperatures will stay a few degrees above normal, with highs in the mid- to upper 90s.

A stormier and slightly cooler pattern is expected for Thursday and Friday. The weekend will be warmer and drier again.
