DENVER — A round of strong thunderstorms rumbled over the Denver area early Monday afternoon with numerous reports of hail and heavy rain. The hail piled up several inches deep in Castle Rock and Parker - putting plenty of Mother's Day plantings into peril!
The strong thunderstorms move east of Denver and dumped more hail from eastern Adams and Arapahoe Counties all the way to Kansas by evening. Behind the main line of storms, a few scattered thunderstorms managed to pop up during the evening, but will end after midnight.
Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy overnight and some patchy fog may develop early Tuesday across eastern Colorado. Lows will drop into the mid-40s by morning. Skies will clear during the morning, with mostly sunny conditions expected through midday.
More storms and showers are in store Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s to low 70s on the plains. A few severe storms will also be possible on Tuesday.
The stormy pattern will finally exit the region on Wednesday, with warmer and drier weather returning. Our afternoon highs will go back up to around 80 degrees Wednesday and Thursday under mostly sunny skies. A few widely scattered thunderstorms will be possible in the afternoon each day, but overall conditions will be drier.
Another round of cooler, unsettled weather arrives starting Friday and continuing into the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms will become likely once again - typical for the middle of May!
