DENVER —

Showers and thunderstorms are likely across much of Colorado overnight and again Wednesday.

Temperatures will stay cooler than average for late August with readings in the mid-50s tonight in Denver and just in the upper 70s Wednesday.

Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible.  Hopefully, the rain will help to wash some of the smoke and haze out of our Colorado skies.

By Thursday, there will be more sunshine and warmer temperatures as highs return to the upper 80s.  There will still be a few afternoon storms - mainly over the mountains and foothills, but a slight chance for Denver.

Friday through Sunday, warmer and drier weather returns with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and low rain chances.

The warm weather will continue into early next week with mainly dry conditions statewide.
