DENVER — A brisk northwesterly flow aloft has been helping to pile up the powder in the mountains of Colorado. Over the weekend many ski areas reported 2 to 3 feet of new snow and have the best early season snow-pack in several years. As a result, Keystone, Breckenridge and Eldora are all planning to open early!
The mountains tend to intercept most of the moisture with this type of weather pattern, leaving Denver and the eastern plains with a few rain and snow showers, gusty winds and cool temperatures.
Tuesday will be cool, dry and mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s across the Front Range and eastern plains. Winds will be gusty at times from the west tomorrow. Some snow-showers will continue over the northern mountains, but accumulations will be light.
A minor storm system will push across northern Colorado and Wyoming on Wednesday. This next cold front will also usher in some colder air on Thursday. Expect highs in the 40s on Wednesday, and in the mid-to upper 30s on Thursday. This storm will bring several inches of snow to Wyoming, but just flurries to the Denver area Wednesday night and early Thursday.
Skies will clear on Friday with milder temperatures expected by Saturday.
