In Denver and across northeastern Colorado, strong winds and heavy snow will bring blizzard conditions for tonight and Thursday morning. A Blizzard Warning is now in effect for all of northeastern Colorado and much of the Denver metro until Noon tomorrow.
Expect 4 to 6 inches for the Denver metro area, 5 to 10 inches in the Foothills and 10 to 12 inches across the northern and central mountains. A few spots in the mountains could pick up 16 to 18 inches as there will be some locally heavy snow bursts.
The winds will increase with gusts over 50 mph with areas of blowing snow. By Thursday morning, the heavy snow and strong winds will cause road closures on the northeast plains from just east of Denver through most of western Nebraska and parts of northwest Kansas.
This storm has brought a dramatic drop in temperatures with readings 50 degrees colder than the temperatures Tuesday afternoon.
Thursday will be windy and cold with lighter snow showers. High temperatures will only be in the middle 30s in Denver and across northeastern Colorado. Winds will remain quite gusty from the northwest at 20-35 mph. Roads will gradually improve during the day.
Friday will be cool with some light rain and snow showers. Highs will be in the low 40s on the plains and 30s in the mountains.
The weather will stay cool and unsettled for Denver and the eastern plains through Saturday with periods of snow flurries and rain showers.
Warmer and drier weather will return Sunday and Monday.
