DENVER — Skies remained mostly clear in Denver and across eastern Colorado through Wednesday evening and early on Thanksgiving Day. Clouds will increase in the mountains and western valleys ahead of an approaching storm system.
A series of cold fronts will begin to move from the Pacific across the central Rockies over the Thanksgiving weekend. Snow will become likely in the mountains on Thanksgiving Day and a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for 4 to 8 inches of snow.
Snow will decrease in the mountains on Friday, while winds increase for Denver and the eastern plains. Expect northwest winds of 30 to 50 mph in Denver and across the plains, with some 60 mph gusts possible near the Wyoming and Nebraska borders. Driving will be impacted on roads in the area!
The fast paced flow of fronts that will race across the region tend to favor the mountains with snow, but leave Denver and the eastern plains with gusty winds, colder temperatures and just a little moisture.
Saturday will be windy and colder with some light rain and snow showers possible in Denver and across eastern Colorado. A few inches of snow will be possible in the northeast corner of the state and heavy snow will develop across Nebraska and northern Kansas.
The holiday weekend will feature some really great skiing thanks to the addition of 8 to 16 inches of fresh powder from late Thursday and continuing through Saturday. Be advised that the roads will be snow-covered and slippery in the mountains, especially on Saturday.
Skies will clear on Sunday, but temperatures will remain chilly — in the middle 30s to low 40s on the plains and 30s in the mountains. Bundle up for the Bronco game or any other outdoors activities.
More snow will be likely next week as the weather pattern remains active over the western United States. By the middle to end of next week a series of storms will bring more snow to the mountains and possibly to the Denver area.
