DENVER — The hot spell that spiked temperatures in the high 90s is breaking. A cold front will slide over eastern Colorado tonight. Scattered thunderstorms will continue into early Wednesday morning, followed by partly cloudy skies and lows across the Front Range in the upper 50s and low 60s.

Wednesday will provide a break from the extreme heat in Denver. Highs will be in the mid-80s, with a good chance for thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening. Moderate to heavy rainfall will be possible, along with damaging winds and hail over eastern Colorado.

The Front Range and plains will likely see scattered storms again on Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will be in the mid-to upper 80s.

Hotter and drier weather will again return to most of Colorado for the weekend. Highs will be in the 90s in the Denver area. In the mountains, highs will be in the upper 70s to middle 80s.
