DENVER — Skies have cleared overnight, bringing a cold morning to Denver. But the temperature will jump up to the low to mid 40s by this afternoon for the final day of 2019.

Do you have plans on New Year's Eve? It will be chilly but dry in the metro area. Temperatures will drop into the 20s after sunset so bundle up! Highs on New Year's Day will be closer to 50 degrees.

Another chance for snow will arrive Wednesday and Thursday for the mountains. A moist flow of air from the Pacific Ocean will pour into the mountains and should be quite a prolific snow maker for our ski areas.

No watches have been issued yet for the mountains, but expect a prolonged period of snow and wind to impact the high country Wednesday through Friday. Snow totals of 1 to 2 feet will be likely in the mountains — especially along and north of I-70 during this time.

And what about Denver and the eastern plains? As of now, it looks as though the mountains will see heavy snowfall with this system, but expect just a slight chance for light snow over the plains on Thursday.
