DENVER — It was a another warm day with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s for Denver and the eastern plains. Skies are hazy due to all the western wildfire smoke. An ozone action day is in effect until 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

There were some thunderstorms over the mountains, but they were moving due south and will not affect Denver or the eastern plains.  The storms will gradually diminish in the mountains overnight.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, highs be cooler, in the 80s with some scattered afternoon storms. The storms are not expected to be severe as warm upper level temperatures will lower the threat for hail.  The storms will produce brief heavy rainfall and plenty of lightning.

Through the rest of the week there will be the typical routine for mid-August, dry and warm in the morning with widely scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will be in the mid-70s to low 80s in the mountains with 80s on the plains.  Nighttime lows will be in the 40s to low 50s in the mountains and 55 to 60 degrees for Denver and surrounding communities.

The weekend will be a little cooler again with a better chance for showers and thunderstorms.
