DENVER --
The high on Tuesday hit 95 degrees and tied the record for June 5th, last set in 1946 - the normal high for this time in June is 79 degrees.
Wednesday will be slightly cooler as a weak cold front slips into northern Colorado. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s in the Denver area. There will be a better chance for strong thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Hot and mostly dry weather will hold over the rest of Colorado, with highs in the 90s and even low 100s over the southeast plains, 90s for the western valleys and 80s in the mountains.
The overall weather pattern will not change much Thursday through the weekend. Highs will be in the 90s for Denver and the eastern plains. Mountain areas will be in the 80s by day and drop to the 40s overnight. Skies will be sunny in the morning, with a few light thunderstorms developing in the afternoon.
Be sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and be careful with any outdoor burning during this hot and dry period.
A cooler weather pattern will move back into the central Rockies early next week with a little better chance for some showers and thunderstorms.
