DENVER — The first Monday of the new year was a mild and dry one across Colorado. High temperatures reached the low to mid-50s in Denver and across much of eastern Colorado. In the mountains, skies stayed mostly clear with temperatures in the upper 20s to around 40 degrees.

A cold front will approach Colorado overnight and cross the state on Tuesday. This fast moving front is coming in from the Pacific Northwest, so it will not be particularly cold, but should manage to bring a few inches of snow to the northern and central mountains on Tuesday. Winter Advisories are in effect for the Park Range near Steamboat Springs for up to 6 inches of snow.

Ahead of the cold front, temperatures will stay fairly mild overnight in Denver and in the foothills. Lows will stay in the upper 20s to middle 30s with a gradual increase in high clouds.

Light snow will develop in the northern and central mountains by daybreak and will continue through the day. Winds will shift and blow strong from the northwest as the cold front passes across the state.

This type of fast moving system rarely brings much snow to Denver or the eastern plains, but some flurries may develop Tuesday afternoon and evening with no accumulation expected.

High temperatures Tuesday will be in the low to mid-50s in Denver and reach the low 60s over southeastern Colorado - just ahead of the cold front. In the mountains, temperatures will be chilly - just in the 20s to low 30s with a cold northwest wind.

Wednesday will be sunny and mild across Colorado with lighter winds. Highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s in the Denver area and in the low 30s in the mountains.

Another cold front may bring some light snow to the mountains on Thursday, while the weather stays dry in Denver.

Still a third cold front will arrive on Saturday. This one will be stronger and colder and should bring a few inches of snow to the Denver area.
