It’s been 25 years since the premiere of “Father of the Bride Part II” in 1995. The original “Father of the Bride” in that franchise, which was a remake of the 1950 film by the same name, premiered four years previously in 1991. Now, fans will get a chance to catch up with the Banks family a quarter of a century later with the Netflix special “Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish).”

It debuts on Netflix as well as the streaming giant’s YouTube and Facebook pages on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. ET.

Steve Martin reprises the titular role of George Banks. Co-stars Diane Keaton (Nina Banks), Kimberly Williams-Paisley (Annie Banks), Kieran Culkin (Matty Banks), Martin Short (Franck Eggelhoffer) and George Newbern (Bryan MacKenzie) are back for the reunion as well.

On Sept. 22 and 23, Netflix first hinted the special was coming through daily tweets. Then, on Sept. 24, Netflix tweeted out a short teaser video for the reunion with the caption, “The Banks family is back for a very special event! Premiering TOMORROW at 3pm PST/6 pm EST on Netflix, YouTube, and Facebook”:

After a montage of clips from the first two movies, the trailer cuts to the exterior of the Banks’ home in 2020, and Keaton can be heard calling Martin’s character to join the family, saying, “Matty said it was important!”

Maybe the younger brother has a big announcement this time around! The “mini-movie,” as Martin called it in a tweet, takes place in the present-day during the pandemic as the family has a virtual meeting. The actor promised some major surprises.

Nancy Meyers, who wrote the first two films, teased about the reunion in aSept. 10 Instagram post in which she shared a poster from the original movie featuring Williams-Paisley and Martin, writing, “If he thought a wedding was a lot, how would he react to 2020? Coming soon to the phone in your hand!”

The reunion special will benefit World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit organization created by celebrity chef Jose Andres in 2010 that provides meals in the wake of natural disasters

Also, a new reboot of “Father of the Bride” is in development at Warner Bros, according to Collider. It will have a more diverse, mostly Latinx cast and is said to be more of a romantic comedy than the past movies.
