DENVER – It’s a holiday tradition in downtown Denver: A parade of colorful lights, the sometimes-uncomfortable feeling of being boxed in with strangers and the ever-present question: “Are you seeing this?” No, we’re not talking about Denver’s Parade of Lights, which takes place this Friday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.
Well, maybe we are. Just a little bit.
RTD officials announced earlier this week several detours to bus and light rail lines as well as street closures that will affect your commute as the Parade of Lights gets underway.
Take the bus? More than a dozen routes will be affected
Bus routes 0, 1, 6, 8, 9, 10, 15, 15L, 16, 16L, 19, 20, 28, 32, 38, 43, 44, 48, 52, and the Free MallRide will experience some disruption during the holiday celebration at Civic Center Park.
Bus detours are expected to last from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Take the light rail? At least 3 rail lines will be impacted
Trains traveling to downtown Denver will end service at the Convention Center Station one hour before the start of the parade on both Friday and Saturday.
The stations at 16th and Stout and 16th and California will be closed during the parade.
Impacted rail lines include the D, F and H lines. Normal service will resume as crowds start leaving downtown Denver.
What about street closures?
The parade will assemble at 14th Avenue and Bannock Street, and will travel through downtown Denver along Tremont Street, 17th Street, Arapahoe Street and Glenarm Street.
