A 10-year-old girl in her mother's van died in a crash during Monday evening rush hour.
Three vehicles were involved in this wreck where 16th Avenue, Florence Street and Del Mar Parkway meet in Aurora.
Officers say the driver of a white Kia Sedona minivan was headed southbound on Del Mar Parkway toward 16th on a green light signal. The driver of a silver Chrysler Town and Country minivan was headed northbound on Del Mar Parkway, also toward 16th on a green light.
Police say the Kia driver turned left in front of the Chrysler, and the Chrysler struck the side of the Kia.
The Kia flipped on its side and slid into a Honda Accord, which was stopped because of a red light.
Officers identified the driver of the Kia as a 33-year-old woman. Her 11-year-old son and two daughters, 10 and 8, were in the van with her. The 10-year-old died on scene because of severe injuries. The others in this van went to the hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
The Chrysler driver also went to the hospital and is expected to be OK. Paramedics treated the people in the Accord at the scene of the crash.
There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors, according to investigators. Police believe the 10-year-old was sitting in a booster seat, but it was not properly secured to the seat in the vehicle. Any charges against the driver of the Kia are pending.
Officers haven't named the victim.
