FIRESTONE, Colo. — The intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Weld County Road 19 closed on Monday afternoon due to a fatal crash.

The Firestone Police Department posted on social media about the crash at 4:30 p.m., warning drivers to avoid the area while authorities investigated the crash.

Firestone Boulevard was closed between County Roads 17 and 21. Weld County Road 19 was closed between County Roads 22 and 26.

The road reopened around 7:15 p.m.

No other details were immediately available on Monday evening.

Denver7 will update this story once we know more.

In 2018, Denver7 reported on residents in this area who wanted either four-way stop signs or a traffic light at the intersection, noting several fatal crashes. At the time, an engineering study found that the crash data did not meet the minimum criteria for installing stop signs.
