Drivers navigating orange barrels at I-25 and Arapahoe Road expressed concerns about a tricky on-ramp. Denver7 has learned the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is making changes to that construction zone on-ramp in the wake of a car crash and several complaints.
Michele Bergh contacted Denver7 after her 16-year-old daughter was involved in a crash while merging onto Interstate 25.
"You don’t notice it until you get to the top of the entrance ramp," said Bergh.
The problem is impacting drivers heading westbound on Arapahoe Road and looking to merge onto southbound I-25. The ramp was changed during the massive construction project happening in the area.
"And she came up to the top thinking that the lane was there as it always had been and got on to the highway and got side swiped immediately," said Bergh.
Thankfully her daughter is OK but Bergh is concerned about other drivers. She contacted Denver7 and CDOT looking for answers.
A spokesperson for CDOT said although the ramp meets guidelines, drivers are having to merge quick in order to get on I-25. He said CDOT is in the process of improving the ramp.
"It will go back to what it was before we started construction but it is going to give people approximately 200 feet of additional acceleration room and so that should help out quite significantly through there," said Bob Wilson, CDOT Communications Manager.
A contractor received the plans on Thursday and will work to make the changes next week.
