ESTES PARK, Colo. – While continuing to ramp up efforts to rebuild US 34 through the Big Thompson Canyon, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has a gift for those wishing to go through the highway over Thanksgiving weekend.

The Big Thompson Canyon will open to all traffic for Thanksgiving weekend – but there will still be some restrictions.

The Town of Estes Parks Facebook page posted the following traffic openings and closures on US 34:

Saturday, Nov. 19 through Wednesday, Nov. 23: US 34 will remain closed between mile marker 77 through 80.

Wednesday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.: US 34 at mile marker 77 through 80 will be open to all traffic. Permits will not be required during this time, a CDOT official said, but there will be a controlled, one lane road opening from mile marker 77 to 77.5 with 5-10 minute stops.

CDOT is advising travelers to drive carefully.

US 34 will close at the Big Thompson Canyon after 7 p.m. that Sunday.
