MEAD, Colo. -- An overturned semi truck hauling beer shut down all of southbound Interstate 25 south of Mead early Saturday afternoon -- the second beer-truck crash this week on Colorado highways.
The Colorado Department of Transportation closed southbound I-25 at Highway 66 near the Firestone/Longmont exit for several hours as the crash was investigated
A truck towing a U-Haul trailer was headed southbound on the Interstate when it began to "fishtail" and the trailer disconnected, according to Colorado State Trooper Alisha Danko.
A 2013 Hyundai SUV swerved to avoid the truck and trailer and ended up hitting the guard rail.
The semi-truck tried to avoid the other two vehicles and overturned, spilling its load, Danko said.
The two people in the semi were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
No one in the truck or Hyundai was seriously injured.
The Interstate reopen around 6:50 p.m., more than six hours after the crash.
On Wednesday, a semi truck carrying beer caused delays on eastbound Interstate 70 and northbound Interstate 25, after it rolled over on a ramp, spilling countless cans of beer onto the highway below. No injuries were reported in that crash.
