Like to drive?

A new pilot program from Uber may help hundreds in the Denver area get jobs, and you don't even need to use your own car. Uber is using Denver as a test market.

“You have to have a nice vehicle, a newer vehicle,” said Denver Uber driver, Angel Mondragon.

But not everyone is cruising in-style like Mondragon.

“Some people say, ‘Yeah, if I had a nicer car I’d try it,’” he said.

In Denver to be an UberX driver, you need 4-doors, be able to seat 4 or more passengers and have a vehicle from the year 2000 or newer.

“They'll check your vehicle out, make sure your seatbelts are good, your tires are good, your windshield,” said Mondragon.

These requirements keep would-be-drivers like Tricia Malone from signing up.

“My car is too old,” she said.

Now, Uber is partnering up with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, hoping to put hundreds of new Uber drivers on the road.

For about $200 a week, drivers can rent a car and start picking up ride-sharing passengers.

So why Denver? Uber representatives tell Denver7, "The strong demand from people in Denver, combined with Colorado’s history of adopting new products such as ride sharing and car sharing makes it perfect city to pilot this rental option first."
