The Girl Scouts are rolling out a new program that allows customers to order cookies online.

Digital Cookie 2.0 is a win-win for cookie lovers and Girl Scouts alike. The girls can earn badges for running an online store, while learning business skills such as marketing and e-commerce.

"It allows our girls to expand their circle of influence from locally to nationally," said Jamie Haxton, chief product sales officer with the Girl Scouts of Colorado.

For example, Girl Scout Madison Walker lives in Colorado, but sells cookies to her grandmother in California. Now, if family members want to help Walker reach her 5,000-box goal, all she has to do is email them a link to her online store. The Girl Scouts handle the shipping.

The nostalgia of going door-to-door isn't lost, either. Haxton said this is just another venue for sales. The more cookies Walker sells, the happier she is.

"My favorite cookie is a Savannah Smile because it's shaped like a smile," said Walker. "It just looks very happy and it has lemon powder, which tastes so good."

Digital Cookie 2.0 rolls out this winter -- depending on where you live. Check with your local Girl Scouts council for release dates.
