Dave Logan's 3 keys to Broncos Super Bowl win

Posted

The voice of the Denver Broncos has not only played the game, he's now been calling the games and talking to players and coaches for 20 years.

Dave Logan says there are three keys to the Denver Broncos winning the Super Bowl on Sunday.

No. 1: Ball security.

"The Carolina Panthers had 39 takeaways or turnovers during the regular season," Logan said. "Nine in the postseason, so far."

Logan said Broncos starting quarterback Peyton Manning will have to take chances and risks, but not turn the ball over. And so far, in the postseason, Manning has been successful at that.

Logan said Manning has only had one turnover in the postseason, which leads to Logan's second key to the Broncos winning the Super Bowl.

No. 2: Peyton Manning

"Peyton Manning needs to have a good game," Logan said.

Logan said Manning needs to get the Broncos out of bad and blown-up plays and make good throws.

No. 3: The defense

Logan said the Broncos' defensive front needs to keep Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton in the pocket.

"Cam's skill set is unique," Logan explained.

He said the Broncos will see scrambling they've never seen before.

"Cam can throw from the pocket and on the run," Logan said.

However, Logan stressed the Broncos have been resilient this season.

Logan has been watching the Broncos for decades. He went to high school in Wheat Ridge and then to college at CU - Boulder.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and played there for eight years before he was traded to his hometown Denver Broncos where he played part of one season.

After he retired from football, Logan did radio and TV in Denver and started calling Broncos games in 1996.

He has interviewed many players and coaches over the years -- in winning and losing seasons.

"You know how hard they work," Logan said. "You suffer through some season and enjoy some seasons." He said yes, he's enjoyed this season.

Logan is a self-admitted football junkie, and said he's been one since he was a kid.

He likes looking at stats and watching games and admits he'd be watching games, even if he wasn't doing play-by-play for the Broncos.

Logan said he likes to paint a picture for listeners and added being an announcer is "a great job."

You can hear Logan call the Super Bowl Sunday on KOA 850 AM in Denver. Logan also talks sports with Susie Wargin from 10 a.m. to noon MT weekdays on 760 AM.

Logan is also a high school football coach who has won championships at four different schools.
