DENVER — At no point Monday afternoon was the Coors Field scoreboard a good look for the hometown Rockies – so the team’s broadcast duo comically took matters into their own hands.

During the fourth inning, with the Rockies already trailing 13-0 to the division foe San Francisco Giants, television commentators Drew Goodman and Ryan Spilborghs crossed out the scoreboard bug in an effort to shield the Rockies faithful from such a ghastly sight.

“We’ve elected not to show people the score for a while,” Goodman said, returning to the broadcast from a commercial break.

As it tends to go on an AT&T Sports Net broadcast, though, the scoreboard graphic inevitably appeared moments later. Spilborghs then hilariously scratched it out with a grease pencil.

“The producer’s gonna be in my ear asking me to clear [it off],” Spilborghs said.

“Don’t,” Goodman rebutted.

Desperate times call for desperate – and hilarious – measures, I suppose.

The matinee contest ended as a 19-2 shallacking by the Giants in the first game of a four-game set.
