DENVER – Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Márquez has agreed to a five-year, $43 million deal with the team, sources tell Denver7's Troy Renck.

The 24-year-old right-hander from Venezuela is in his fourth year with the Rockies. He won his first start of the season last week, throwing six innings of two-hit, one-run ball en route to a 6-1 win over Miami.

Márquez is in his third full year as a starter with the Rockies. He owns a 27-19 record and career 4.07 ERA in 66 career starts. He has emerged as the Rockies clear No. 2 starter behind ace Kyle Freeland.

Márquez finished 2018 with a 14-11 record and 3.77 ERA after throwing nearly 200 innings and striking out 230 batters. He was on a one-year deal with the Rockies and was set to make $565,000 this season before the new agreement.

The Rockies entered Tuesday’s matchup with Tampa Bay with a 2-3 record. Márquez is next scheduled to start Wednesday against the Rays.

Further terms of the tentative agreement were not immediately available Tuesday afternoon. The agreement was first reported by ESPN and USA Today.
