No surprise: Brock Osweiler to start at QB

Posted

Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said Brock Osweiler remains the team's starting quarterback this week. Kubiak met the media Monday afternoon after the Broncos 17-3 in San Diego Sunday. He was asked about the status of quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler headed into the Raiders game next Sunday.

“Peyton worked hard through the weekend and worked hard today," the coach said.  "Nothing will change this week as far as [QB] Brock [Osweiler] is our starter in what we’re doing. The thought is that maybe starting Wednesday, depending on how things go, [Manning will] start to throw, we start to do a little bit on the field type of stuff. We’re working toward some football things this week, but it has been a good weekend for him and I know he’s feeling better.”

"As far as doing some other things, he’s been doing a lot working out, lifting, a lot of upper body stuff trying to do all that he can to get some type of cardio involved. There’s always a process to getting back on that field and running around. Hopefully, we can get some of that started this week.”

Osweiler has started the last three games and the Broncos have won all three. The team is 10-2 and right now the Broncos are the #2 seed in the AFC

"He’s done a lot of good things, did a lot of good things yesterday, also a lot of things that he can continue to learn about himself and making decisions and those type of things," Kubiak said. "It’s also me, [Quarterbacks/Passing Game Coordinator Greg] Knapper [Knapp] and [Offensive Coordinator Rick] Rico [Dennison] continuing to understand him better as a player and the things that he is most comfortable with. It’s early. Like you said, three weeks. What’s that 12 or 14 quarters of football that I think he’s played this year? I think good football is continuing to come and I think that it will continue to come as he gets more and more experience.”
