FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Bolder Boulder is expanding.
Organizers of one of the largest, world-class 10k races in the country have agreed to help organize a new Labor Day race in Fort Collins starting in 2017.
“There was a lot of discussion, but at the end of the day, it was about how can we celebrate Fort Collins, celebrate CSU, the new stadium and do it in a collaborative way,” added Gary Ozzello, the executive director of community outreach for Colorado State University.
Over the years, Bolder Boulder organizers have repeatedly turned down other cities’ requests to help with races, and say even this one took some convincing.
“We’ve been on and off having a conversation over the last three years,” Bolder Boulder race director Cliff Bosley said. “So I guess good things take time.”
Race organizers say they won’t reveal the race’s name or route until the official announcement Wednesday at 4 p.m. at O’Dell Brewing Company in Fort Collins. However, we do know CSU's new stadium will be a centerpiece of the Labor Day run.
“The event we're going to announce, to me, reflects the fortitude that is Fort Collins,” said Ozzello. “One of the things we talk about here is a world-class community and a world-class university and we're going to have a world-class event.”
