BOULDER, Colo. – Finishing the BolderBOULDERis an accomplishment. Finishing it every time is mind-boggling. Darrius Baer is one of about 60 men and women who have accomplished that feat.
“It’s a fantastic experience and it’s an achievement,” Baer told Denver7’s Jason Gruenauer during a recent visit. “It’s just part of my nature. There’s me and the BolderBOULDERand we’re one in the same.”
When his family moved to Texas in the 90s, Baer would travel back to run the race. Having his knee replaced, hip replaced, gall bladder removed and even cataract surgery did not stop him from running the BolderBOULDER.
“It wasn’t, ‘Well maybe I will do it.’ It was, ‘Absolutely I will do it,” he remembers.
But in all of those years, Baer’s favorite memory is still running with his then 5-year-old son in 1984. His son has run with him every year since and the two plan to run together again this year and as long as they can.
“I’m actually at this point, believe it or not, where I’m forward to 50,” he said.
