Signs reading "6-feet" and "mask" ringed the field, but the action on the baseball diamond captivated the minds and hearts of everyone at Fort Collins' City Park.

Thanks to hard work and dedication from the Fort Collins Baseball Club, high school ballplayers in northern Colorado had the chance to jump the lines a few more times after their 2020 season was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

They called it the "City Series Championship" - a sort of double-round-robin tournament between the four high schools in the Fort Collins area: Fort Collins High School, Rocky Mountain, Poudre, and Fossil Ridge.

Each team played each other team twice, and then the two teams with the top overall records squared off for ultimate supremacy.

That match up ended up being between Fort Collins and Rocky Mountain - lifelong rivals that relished the chance to play each other one last time before saying goodbye to the class of 2020.

The game finished in a 6-4 victory for the Lambkins of Fort Collins, but my guess is everyone who was involved will remember this night for much more than a final score.
