CSU Rams get mentally ready for Arizona Bowl

First there was the jubilation of reaching the postseason, followed by the shock of getting matched against a Mountain West team in a bowl game.

Now, a month after last playing a game, Colorado State (7-5) and Nevada are set to meet in the inaugural Arizona Bowl at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. It's the bowl game that matches teams from the same conference, but the Rams got over that a long time ago.

"We came out the next day for a workout, and it was done," senior tight end Kivon Cartwright said. "By that point, we'd all shifted our mentality."

The idea of being prepared is what was foremost on the minds of the coaches.

"Basically, we just worked on fundamentals," CSU coach Mike Bobo said. "We worked on competition, going against each other, keeping score on third down, keeping score on red zone, trying to keep their juices flowing for football, trying to do football-related functions and activities just to stay mentally and physically sharp as far as football."
