Colorado Rockies rock on with walk-up songs including 'Happy' by Pharrell

DENVER -- Music intersects with baseball in ways never imaginable a century ago.

Consider the story of diminutive Juan Pierre. He broke into professional baseball as a fourth outfielder on a lacking Class-A team for the Rockies. After a trade to the Marlins -- he was the necessary sweetener to make the Mike Hampton three-way deal go through -- Pierre played in the World Series in 2003. Perhaps you remember. Florida stunned the Yankees, relying on small ball.

Jay-Z sat at Yankee Stadium watching Pierre run wild on New York. Not long after the iconic rapper released "DeJa Vu" with the lyrics, "I used to run base like Juan Pierre. Now, I run the bass hi-hat and the snare."

Pierre couldn't believe it. Needless to say, he had a new walk-up song. Tunes have become as much a part of the National Pastime as splintered bats and weathered gloves. Here's a sample of walk-up songs for Rockies' notable players provided by the team. You're welcome. Rock on:

  • CF Charlie Blackmon: "Your Love" by the Outfield
  • 2B DJ LeMahieu: "The Buzz" by Hermitude
  • 3B Nolan Arenado: "Sweet Sweet" by Travis Scott
  • OF Gerardo Parra: "Happy" by Pharrell Williams
  • SS Trevor Story: "Thief" by Ookay
  • C Dustin Garneau: "Dynasty" by Sleeping Giant
  • INF Alexi Amarista: "Detras De Ti" by Jory Boy (feat. Ozuna)
  • OF Stephen Cardullo: "Name Me King" by The Game (feat. Pusha T (edited)
  • LHP Kyle Freeland: "Victory Music" by MGK feat. Britni Elise

  • RHP Jordan Lyles: "Human" by Rag'n'Bone Man
