Denver Broncos' head coach Gary Kubiak has proven everybody right in the Broncos organization, the team's general manager John Elway said Sunday at the Lamar Hunt AFC Championship trophy presentation.
Kubiak was hired one year ago after the Broncos lost their first game in the playoffs under head coach John Fox.
When Fox and the Broncos decided to part ways, Elway turned to his former backup quarterback and later, offensive coordinator, to take over as head coach.
One year later, the Broncos are heading back to the Super Bowl.
Even last January, Kubiak knew that the Super Bowl was the expectation.
"I understand the expectation of this organization," Kubiak said in 2015. "Each and every year this team is built for one reason and one reason only -- and that is to win a championship."
On Sunday, Kubiak said, "It means the world to me that John [Elway] gave me a chance to come back to my football home. So proud to be part of this organization."
Not including this season, Kubiak has been part of 17 playoff teams, 12 division titles, eight conference championship games and six Super Bowls.
Kubiak was signed to a four -ear contract.
