DENVER -- Broncos boss Vic Fangio planned to keep his entire coaching staff together when he met the media the day after the season. However, he knew the possibility existed that openings in other places could lead to promotions.
Friday, Broncos outside linebackers coach Brandon Staley landed the Rams defensive coordinator's position, per sources, replacing Wade Phillips. Fangio brought Staley to Denver last winter after the pair worked together well in Chicago for two seasons. Staley drew high marks from his players in his one year in Denver that included a spat of injuries that required the use of young players and street free agents.
“Great dude, even better coach," Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb told Denver7 on Friday. "He’ll be a head coach in 2-3 years, watch.”
Added cornerback Chris Harris Jr. on Twitter, "Oh that’s Major, B Staley."
Staley, 37, has been climbing steadily in the coaching ranks from junior college to small college before his last stops in Chicago and Denver. No other Broncos coaches are interviewing for other spots at this time.
