INDIANAPOLIS – The second-seeded University of Denver men’s lacrosse team will begin its national title defense by hosting the winner of a Wednesday play-in game between Hobart and Towson in the NCAA First Round at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m. MT, the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Selection committee announced on Sunday night. Denver’s No. 2 seed is its highest in program history.
The winner of the first-round game at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium will take on the winner of No. 7 seed Loyola and Duke in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Ohio Stadium.
Denver dropped its first game against BIG EAST opposition since joining the conference in 2014, falling to Marquette 10-9 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday.
The Pioneers are 11-7 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 4-0 at Peter Barton. In his 32nd year overall and his seventh season at Denver, Tierney is 41-17 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 11-3 in the first round.
This is the fourth-straight year that the Pioneers have hosted the NCAA Men's Lacrosse First Round and the fifth time in program history.
