Gone are the days when advent calendars meant tiny pieces of chocolate hiding behind paper doors. Now, these calendars come filled with socks, booze and even cheese!
There are even a few advent calendars just for Harry Potter fans this holiday season.
This “Harry Potter: A Hogwarts Christmas Pop-Up Book” is both a book and an advent calendar, so you or your little ones can count down the days to Christmas, Hogwarts-style. The book re-creates the Great Hall from the Harry Potter films, complete with a pop-up Christmas tree at the center.
At $27.99 on Amazon, it is full of behind-the-scenes details on the props and set designs of the films and includes removable and displayable keepsake artifacts and other elements from the beloved movies.
If you’re a Lego fan, you can also pre-order a Harry Potter Lego advent calendar. This calendar doubles as a toy, as each day brings a new piece of the set until it is completed on day 24.
The set includes seven Lego mini figurines like Harry, Hermione and Ron, as well as Albus Dumbledore, Professor Filius Flitwick and Hedwig the owl. Other toys include a buildable fireplace with Christmas decorations, a Great Hall table with accessories and a little Hogwarts Express train.
By combining the toys once you reach day 24, you or your child can re-create familiar holiday scenes from the Harry Potter movies, like Christmas dinner in the Great Hall and the arrival of the Hogwarts Express.
Don’t want to count down the days to Christmas with Harry Potter? If you’d rather spend the days leading up to the holiday with some adult beverages, there are calendars out there that are just for you.
While this sparkling wine advent calendar is only available in the U.K., it is filled with small bottles of bubbly wine, like white and rosé prosecco. The owner of the calendar gets one mini-bottle each day, with Dec. 24 providing a bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne from France to make your Christmas Eve extra-special.
Last year, grocery retailer Aldi had a similar wine advent calendar for sale in the U.S. priced at $69.99, so keep an eye out for that again this year.
Instagram user @kimberlyallison24’s posted a photo of Aldi’s calendar, showing it had different wines from around the world, including white, red and sparkling.
Lastly, hard seltzers have seen a huge spike in popularity this year, so it only makes sense that there is now a hard seltzer advent calendar! For $89, you can pre-order a hard seltzer calendar and expect it to be delivered in November.
There are also wine and beer calendars, with the wine calendar giving you 12 half bottles of wine — which is six full bottles!
Will you be picking up a fun advent calendar this holiday season?
