President Donald Trump announced Friday that Stephen Miller will become White House chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles, who resigned Thursday night, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The announcement marks Trump's first major personnel shake-up since Democrats swept Tuesday's midterm elections.

Miller, who was serving as White House deputy chief of staff, will assume the role Monday, Nov. 9. Wiles will move to Trump's political operation.

Trump addressed the personnel change outside of the White House on Friday.

"I wanted to make a change. I think Susie's done a great job but I just wanted to — Stephen's been great, and we got to make, we got to make moves. Sometimes, sometimes in life, you have to make moves"

Wiles also thanked Trump in a post on X, saying serving the president was an "honor of a lifetime."

"I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First," she wrote.

Miller, meanwhile, has been a central figure in shaping Trump's immigration agenda and has emerged as one of the administration's most influential voices on immigration enforcement and other domestic policy issues.

The leadership change comes just three days after Democrats won control of both the House and Senate, delivering a major political setback to Trump and Republicans.
