MESA COUNTY, Colo. — One person is in custody and residents in part of Glade Park were evacuated as authorities worked to contain a brush fire Tuesday morning.

The evacuation notice was lifted around 9:45 a.m. when the fire was contained. It burned about one acre on private land.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of roommates fighting around 4:40 a.m. along the 15600 block of Holloway Lane in Glade Park. A witness said one of the roommates had a gun and at least one shot was fired into the air.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office SWAT team responded and other people inside the home, including children, were evacuated.

When deputies arrived, they heard other shots, according to the sheriff's office. They were eventually able to deescalate the situation and talk with the man causing the disturbance.

Around 8 a.m., deputies in the area saw smoke and fire coming from the same property they had responded to earlier that morning. The SWAT team returned to the area and contacted a person, who surrendered peacefully, the sheriff's office said.

Due to the terrain and possibility of fire spread, residents within two miles of the fire were asked to evacuate immediately to the Glade Park store at 16498 D S Road, the sheriff's office said.

An Emergency Notification was sent to about 70 residents in the area. Residents who could see the fire but didn't receive the notification were still asked to evacuate. Deputies also went door to door to notify residents.

The residence and at least one car was burned. Both are completes losses, the sheriff's office said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Brandon Williams, 35, was taken into custody and is facing charges of second-degree arson, prohibited use of a weapon, criminal mischief and domestic violence. He's being held at the Mesa County Detention Facility.
