LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — The Cameron Peak Fire, which has been burning in Larimer County since Aug. 13, is now at 21,017 acres, as of Tuesday morning.

The fire is 25 miles east of Walden and 15 miles southwest of Red Feather Lakes, and remains 0% contained. The fire grew by about 1,000 acres from Monday to Tuesday.

Fire officials at the three other large wildfires in the state have reported some containment levels — the Pine Gulch Fire is 47%, the Williams Fork Fire is 5% and the Grizzly Peak Fire is 44%.

The Cameron Peak Fire is not endangering any structures or facilities as of Tuesday morning, according to the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team.

Law enforcement is still investigating the cause of the fire and is asking for any photos the public may have from the trails located south of Cameron Peak, especially photos taken of active fire adjacent to any trails. Share those photos with SM.FS.usfsarp@usda.gov and call 307-745-2392, option 5, if you have any other information about how the fire started.

The Cameron Peak Fire remained active, mostly in the southeast area, on Sunday due to the hot, dry and windy conditions. The fire expanded south of Peterson Lake and north of the West Fork Tunnel, the incident management team reported.

Crews responded by removing unburned fuel around the tunnel and the Barnes Meadow Reservoir. Officials said this was a successful operation.

The weather on Monday is expected to be the same sunny, hot and dry conditions firefighters have been addressing for weeks around the state. However, there is a chance of thunderstorms, including rain, throughout the week.

Monday's firefighting plan will include continued work along Pingree Park Road establishing dozer lines and protecting structures to the east. In addition, officials will continue planning out strategies to slow the spread of fire, the incident management team reported.

Colorado Highway 14 is closed from Kelly Flatts to Gould due to the Cameron Peak Fire. The Arapaho Roosevelt National Forest has implemented a closure area around the fire.

Denver7 spoke with local business owners Friday about how the fire and evacuations are affecting what is typically a busy time of the year.
