LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — Firefighters made progress on the Cameron Peak Fire on Monday, bringing containment from 47% to 56% and limiting growth to only a few hundred acres.

The fire was at 134,960 acres Tuesday morning, up slightly from 134,559 on Monday.

Crews on Monday still faced extreme winds at times, and dry conditions, but they were able to finish a significant amount of containment line on the northern side of the fire area.

Tuesday was expected to bring more dry winds to the fire, creating near-critical conditions. The Rocky Basin Type 1 team was transitioning into the fire and will take over command from Team 6 on Wednesday morning.
