Driver arrested after deputy dragged

Posted

A deputy is recovering after being dragged during a traffic stop.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office said deputies stopped a wanted fugitive on Monday night in Grand Junction. Deputies said the man, 43-year-old Donald Quint, was initially compliant, but then he dragged and nearly ran over a deputy.

"The deputy sustained non-life threatening injuries to his knees and both arms," according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they tracked the vehicle Quint was driving and found it abandoned. A family member of Quint's told deputies that Quint was inside a home in Orchard Mesa.

"Through the windows of the residence, deputies witnessed Donald in the kitchen obtaining knives and then appearing to barricade himself in the bathroom," the Mesa County Sheriff's Office said. "When GJPD SWAT officers made entry into the bathroom trying to arrest Donald, he swung a shower curtain at them trying to strike them and assault them, several times."

A K-9 was brought in and helped arrest Quint on a warrant for domestic violence in addition to assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, vehicular eluding, driving under revocation and failure to drive in a single lane.

Quint is being held without bond.
