GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- A man investigators believe shot and killed his pregnant wife while he was trying to flee a gunman during a dispute in Grand Junction has been charged with criminally negligent homicide.
Investigators say 28-year-old Alexander Fedak was sitting in the driver's seat next to 25-year-old Shandie Case when a gunman emerged from a car the couple had been following Nov. 6.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinelreports Case, who was six months pregnant, was struck in the head. KJCT-TV reported the bullet that killed Case came from Fedak's gun.
Investigators don't believe that the man who emerged from the car with the rifle, Joseph Anthony Manzanarez, Jr., ever fired the weapon. Manzanarez was also shot. He was treated at a local hospital, then arrested on suspicion of menacing, possession of weapons by a previous offender and prohibited use of weapons, according to court documents obtained by Denver7.
Booking documents do not indicate if Fedak has hired an attorney.
KJCT-TV reported that the situation started over a truck Case and Fedak rented to another woman. There was a dispute over the truck and at some point Case and Fedak confronted the woman and Manzanarez at a Grand Junction intersection.
