The Mesa County Coroner's Office has determined that alcohol was not a factor in the drowning death of a 20-year-old who was swept away by the current at a popular swimming hole in Grand Junction.
The Daily Sentinel reports that Austin Worbington, a freshman on the Colorado Mesa University football team last fall, was found submerged at a spot called the Potholes at Glade Park on Wednesday.
A Bureau of Land Management spokesman says the area where Worbington drowned was filled with chilly water from spring snow melt and extremely dangerous for swimmers.
While toxicology reports were negative for alcohol, the coroner's office did say tests showed marijuana in Worbington's system. The coroner noted there was no evidence he had used marijuana the day of the incident.
