Ouch.
Dash-cam video shows the exact moment an apparent adventurous deer attempted to clear the roadway ahead of a Kentucky police cruiser over the weekend.
In all seriousness, the impact of the video sounds and looks pretty bad, but the deer appears to be OK because he runs off into the woods without missing a beat.
The video was posted Tuesday on the Kenton County Police Department Facebook page with some safely tips if this ever happens to you: avoid the collision if you can, put on the breaks, maintain control of the vehicle and pull of the road.
The police department even put in a call to Santa just in case one of his reindeer had gotten loose. No worries, seems it wasn't one of his.
The officer was not hurt, although his cruiser did sustain some damage, according to the post.
Police followed up the video with a second post reminding drivers how serious these events are.
"In 2014 alone, there were over 3,000 collisions between vehicles and deer in Kentucky. As a result of those crashes, 115 people suffered injuries and three people died. We wanted to show that a controlled and safe reaction while driving can potentially mitigate the severity of a collision," they wrote.
The issue isn't exclusive to Kentucky. In November, Colorado Department of Transportation said there were 3,960 wildlife collisions last year. That was up from 2013 and above the 10-year average of 3,590. Six people died in the 2014 crashes.
