Ben Carson skipping upcoming GOP debate

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson will not attend Thursday’s debate in Detroit, saying he does not see a “path forward.”

However, Carson is not formally suspending his campaign, but said he will make a speech about his “political future” on Friday in Washington, D.C.

Carson's campaign sent the following statement to Denver7:

"I have decided not to attend the Fox News GOP Presidential Debate tomorrow night in Detroit.  Even though I will not be in my hometown of Detroit on Thursday, I remain deeply committed to my home nation, America.  I do not see a political path forward in light of last evening’s Super Tuesday primary results. However, this grassroots movement on behalf of “We the People” will continue. Along with millions of patriots who have supported my campaign for President, I remain committed to Saving America for Future Generations. We must not depart from our goals to restore what God and our Founders intended for this exceptional nation."

"I appreciate the support, financial and otherwise, from all corners of America.  Gratefully, my campaign decisions are not constrained by finances; rather by what is in the best interests of the American people."

Carson failed to gain any ground in the political race on Super Tuesday. Politico reports that Carson has only picked up eight delegates throughout his campaign after picking up just three last night.

Prior to the polls closing on Tuesday, Carson called on the remaining five GOP candidates to meet and discuss the negative rhetoric surrounding the 2016 Presidential Race.

"I am confident that the five remaining candidates can rise above the sophomoric attacks of past encounters and have a serious discussion about substantive issues and how we will lead our nation forward toward a more prosperous and secure future," he said, according to CNN. "America's children and grandchildren are depending on us to fight for them and future generations, not fight each other."
