A shooting on the UCLA campus has left two people dead, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Wednesday.

The chief of LAPD said the shooting was murder-suicide and the campus is now safe, the Associated Press reported at about 1:10 p.m. MT.

Both people killed were men, LAPD said on Twitter. It's not known if the people who were shot are students, employees or visitors.

The LAPD tweeted there was an "active shooter in the Engineering Building #4" at 11:45 a.m. MT.

The campus was put on lockdown and people were asked to shelter in place, according to school officials.

LAPD put the entire city on Tactical Alert, the police department stated on Twitter.

All classes were canceled for the rest of the day, campus officials said.
