A day after losing advertising dollars from two companies following disparaging remarks about Miss Colorado's nursing monologue during the talent portion of the Miss America pageant, the women of The View dedicated a whole segment to celebrate nurses and their profession.
"You let us know that you were offended by some of the comments and believe me, we were listening," said Joy Behar as she opened the segment. “We apologize for our remarks and we know how vitally important nurses are. But we didn’t want to leave it at that.”
The hosts then welcomed two nursing instructors from NYU's College of Nursing to talk about themselves and the importance of the work nurses do on a daily basis.

The guests talked about the incredible work nurses have done, not only inside hospitals but also outside of them, citing the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, during natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the work they perform during war.
"There are countless heroic nurses and countless (Miss Colorado) Kelley Johnsons that are impacting lives every minute of every day," said clinical assistant professor Larry Slater.
"I want to say, I -- personally -- I think we all learned a lot this week," said The View co-host Michelle Collins. “As a result of this situation, I didn’t really understand the challenges facing nurses and the need to improve how people view and appreciate what you guys do.”
During Monday's show, Collins had poked fun at Miss Colorado and said, "(She) came in a nurse's uniform, and basically read e-mails out loud (laughing). And shockingly did not win. I was like, ‘That’s not a real talent.'"
Behar had chimed in with, "Why does she have a doctor's stethoscope around her neck?"
Poking fun at herself about the doctor's stethoscope comment, Behar said on Friday, "One thing that became abundantly clear to me this week was that nurses wear stethoscopes.”
On a more serious note, Collins once again apologized and stated the importance of nurses.
"Hopefully, by focusing on this today we can help better understand and recognize the critical role that nurses play in caring for others and making such a big difference.”
This second apology by the ladies of The View comes a day after Johnson and Johnson and Eggland's Best Eggs suspended their advertisements on the show.
The move by both companies was a reaction to massive social media backlash from nurses around the country who asked for the show to be canceled.
The co-hosts responded to that criticism at first by saying their comments were taken out of context and their jokes were misunderstood.
Raven-Symone said, "Did they hear the conversation? Did they know what you were talking about at all?"
Only Behar was clear during her apology on Tuesday, saying, "I was just stupid, I didn’t know what the hell I was talking about."
So will a 7-minute segment celebrating nurses and a blatant apology stem the backlash from millions of irate nurses? We'll just have to see.
Dr. Oz will dedicate a whole hour to nurses and Miss Colorado will be at the show, a Facebook post shows. Dr. Oz airs Mondays at 2 p.m. on ABC.
