ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Hundreds of voters traveled far and wide on Election Day to cover Susan B. Anthony's gravesite with "I Voted" stickers, as the country faces the prospect of its first female president in history.

Visitors were leaving flowers, candles, flags and were covering her gravesite with the stickers, 144 years after she was arrested for voting in a presidential election.

Susan B. Athony, the women's suffrage leader and feminist activist, had a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement.

She did not see her dream come to life, as she died in 1906 -- 14 years before the 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920, giving women the right to vote.

Mount Hope Cemetery will be open until 9 p.m. local time so last-minute voters can still stop by to add their "I Voted" stickers, as well as special stickers made by the city that read, "#BecauseOfWomenLikeHER," on Anthony's grave, ABC News reported
