Firefighters in Virginia and Pennsylvania had their hands full rescuing man’s best friend Wednesday morning.
In Reston, Virginia, a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crew worked to save a panicked dog who had fallen through the ice on Lake Thoreau.
Witnesses told Reston Now that the dog, a Chow named Angel, was about 10 to 15 feet offshore when the ice cracked underneath its paws. Fortunately, responding firefighters were able to pull Angel to safety.
Elsewhere, in University Park, Pennsylvania, Alpha Fire Co. firefighters and Penn State Police worked together to lift a Golden Retriever named Skye out of a sinkhole at the Penn State Arboretum. The dog had been missing since Monday and wasn't discovered in the sinkhole until today.
A video of the rescue showed Skye happily wagging her tail as firefighters pulled her out.
