DENVER -- The Denver Zoo had a big New Year's Eve arrival -- a Cape buffalo.

Tamale was born on December 31. Cape buffalo typically weigh at least 50 pounds at birth.

Now, 10 days old, Tamale has joined the Denver Zoo's other Cape Buffalo in their yard.

Cape buffalo have a very thick skin -- up to 2 inches thick in some places -- to help protect them from injury during fighting and protect them from predators, according to the San Diego Zoo.
