Search underway for missing rafter at Disaster Falls in Dinosaur National Monument

A search is underway for a missing rafter near the Colorado-Utah border, after a raft owned by a commercial company in the Dinosaur National Monument flipped late Friday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 5 p.m. at Disaster Falls on the Green River in the Canyon of Lodore. Everyone made it to shore except for a female occupant of the raft, according to Dan Johnson, a Dinosaur National Monument official. 

The woman has only been identified as being 63 years of age. 

The raft, owned by Adrift Adventures, was freed after being pinned to a rock in the river due to the force of the current, Johnson added. 

Disaster Falls, which has a class III-IV rating depending on river levels according to the International Scale of River Difficulty, is located in a remote section of the Canyon of Lodore, approximately 7 miles from the river launch at the Gates of Lodore. The Green River was flowing at approximately 8,600 cubic feet per second at the time of the incident.
