TELLURIDE, Colo. (AP) -- Commissioners in San Miguel County say they intend to protest plans to lease federal lands for possible oil and gas drilling.
A U.S. Bureau of Land Management lease sale in February could offer petroleum developers an opportunity to bid on developing almost 11,000 acres in San Miguel County.
County officials tell the Telluride Daily Planet the BLM didn't address concerns they raised. They say an environmental study used to justify the leasing pre-dates listing of the Gunnison sage grouse as a threatened species.
The proposed leasing area includes sage grouse habitat.
