The death of Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey has some Aspen residents remembering the band's early days in the resort town.
TheAspen Times reports that Frey and his original band mates played their first extended show as the Eagles at a long-gone club at the base of Little Nell, the Gallery, in 1971. They were brought to town by Jimmy Buffet's manager, Irving Azoff, to develop their live show.
In a 2010 story in the Times, Frey recalled that there were just 40 people for the band's first set but the club was packed by the time they played a fourth set that night.
Frey, who had a home in Aspen, told the Times that the song "Partytown" was partially inspired by Aspen.
